Alessandro Lindblad (born July 7, 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden), commonly known by his stage name Alesso, is a Swedish DJ and electronic dance music producer. He has worked with numerous EDM (and other) artists, including Avicii, OneRepublic, Calvin Harris, Usher, David Guetta, and Sebastian Ingrosso. He has also performed at numerous music festivals, including Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Tomorrowland. In 2012, MTV named Alesso one of the "EDM Rookies to Watch" and Madonna, who invited him to open select dates on her MDNA Tour, called Alesso "the next big thing in dance music". As of 2014, he ranks 15th on DJ Magazine's list of the top 100 DJs. His debut full-length album "Forever" is set to be released by May 22, 2015 by Def Jam Recordings.
Lindblad was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and is of half-Italian descent. He started playing piano at age 7, but became interested in EDM when he was 16. Alesso gained recognition from established industry artists like Avicii, David Guetta, Erick Morillo, Groove Armada, and others with the release of his Alesso EP in 2010. In early 2011, Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House
Mafia contacted Alesso and asked if he wanted to work together. Ingrosso introduced him to DJing and helped him with the production of tracks. Since that time, Ingrosso has acted as a mentor for Alesso. Alesso has referred to the elder Swede as a "big brother". Despite having learned to DJ in 2011, Alesso made his debut on DJ Magazine's list of the top 100 DJs at number 70 in that same year.
From the South of Sweden to speakers and screens across the globe, AronChupa is a new breed of viral hit maker. The aspiring college soccer star first hit the radar as part of viral group Albatraoz, who garnered more than 16million plays across Scandinavia for their self titled single, but it wasn’t until 2014 that Aron Ekberg would take flight on his own terms. From his bedroom at his parent’s house in Borås, with a little help from sister Nora on vocals, ‘I’m An Albatraoz’ was born. Hitting Double Platinum across the board, the track has collectively streamed more than 550m times to-date, giving AronChupa a global reputation as Sweden’s latest viral dance export.
AronChupa’s profile only spread in 2015. Kick-starting the year with main stage duties at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, a packed global tour schedule added to the on-going popularity of ‘I’m An Albatraoz,’ which hit number one in more than five countries and held top ten in more than 50. Joining global chart topper OMI for recent album track ‘Drop In The Ocean,’ Aron’s acceptance among the elite of modern pop music sets the tone for his forthcoming solo work considerably high. Second single ‘Fired Cuz I Was Late’ shows a fresh side to the Stockholm-based talent in the wake of his speedy rise to fame.
Showcasing his broad production skills and fusing main room dance music with an urban twist, the year ahead spells further twists and turns for one of Sweden’s most unsuspecting success stories of the past decade - all in the name of putting fun and freshness back into electronic music.
You won’t find Axwell resting on the laurels of a decade of unflinching influence in electronic music. The four-time Grammy nominee comes renowned for bringing a melodic flare to the house music world, one that has subsequently seen the Swedish icon evolve into a festival favourite and sought after production force with an arsenal of IDs under his belt. Balancing life as a solo heavyweight alongside activity as Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Axel Hedfors has never bowed to pressures of being the next big thing. Quality over quantity is the name of the game, and in 2016, business has never felt better.
From such pivotal club tracks as ‘Feel The Vibe’ and ‘I Found U’ through to definitive dance anthem ‘Leave The World Behind,’ Axwell’s melodic stamp has been felt across some of electronic music’s most crucial cultural leaps and bounds. Scoping additional remix credits for acts as varied as Madonna, Faithless and Moby whilst also taking the reigns of production work for both Usher and Flo Rida, his is a legacy that has both defined and outgrown the club floor on numerous occasions. Stepping back into the ring for ‘Barricade,’ his first solo single since ‘Centre of the Universe,’ Axwell reminds the world that his personal musical output is a force that will never be taken off the table.
But the reign of Axwell has by no means been a solitary affair. As one half of Axwell Λ Ingrosso alongside long-time friend and collaborator Sebastian Ingrosso, the duo landed off of a definitive chapter of their collaborative careers with a clear vision for where their stake in the electronic landscape stood. Five critically acclaimed singles deep, the duo continues to take electronic music into huge musical remits, using the culmination of their signature studio energies to keep the genre suitable for the stadium crowds and beyond. From back- to-back Billboard chart success to landmark appearances at Governors Ball, Coachella and V Festival and exciting appearances at both Ushuaia Ibiza and Hakkassan Las Vegas, theirs has been a brand with unlimited universal potential and high profile activity on every corner of the globe.
The power of the Axwell brand is by no means limited to one man. 2015 signalled the tenth anniversary of Axtone Records – the personal imprint of Axwell now responsible for an armada of rising talent and some truly definitive moments in electronic music. As a brand, Axtone continues to hold fort across the globe, with branded stages and events scaling Miami, Tomorrowland, Amsterdam Dance Event among others. ‘To be able to be a label, release music and employ people in a time when the digital market made everyone scared feels special,’ admits Ax. ‘You can never take for granted the ability to be creative and make careers for people. That’s a very special privilege.’
At the outset of 2016, Axwell has aspirations to strike a powerful balance between his musical and personal aspirations. With more main stages, landmark releases, head-turning musical ventures and solo live ventures than ever before, the original Swedish master of melodic dance music remains in the business of breaking barricades, setting records and letting electronic music hold fort at every corner of the globe.
Two heads are better than one, especially when it comes to taking electronic music to the masses. Masters of guerilla activity and renowned for crafting tracks versatile enough to hold the global airwaves and festival crowds alike, the creative reign of Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso found an unprecedented second wind in 2014. Embraced by tastemakers, luxury brands and adoring fans across the continents, you don’t have to be Zane Lowe, H&M or an animated fan in a festival crowd to see that Axwell Λ Ingrosso continue to change the game and take electronic music places it has never been before.
‘There is a strange balance of energy between myself and Seb that makes this one of the most exciting projects ever,’ explains Axwell. ‘I can sit with something alone for a few hours and then take it to him and he leaps on it with this huge energy and all these ideas. It seems crazy from the outside, but it works.’
Already renowned as two of Sweden’s most iconic musical exports, the culmination of these influential house acts has already garnered considerable stamina in just two years of activity. The journey truly began in 2014 with a first collaborative appearance at Governors Ball in New York. Debut single ‘Something New’ formalized the duo’s newly realized project, with subsequent singles ‘On My Way,’ ‘Can’t Hold Us Down’ and ‘Sun Is Shining’ putting the Stockholm-based crusaders back on the radio airwaves whilst keeping their main stage activity in full flow. The Pusha T assisted ‘This Time’ spelled an experimental twist with a charitable edge for the UNHCR from the all-star act at the back end of 2015, pledging all personal profits to assist children affected by the global refugee crisis.
From Grammy Nominations and DJ Mag Top 100 chart success through to back-to-back Billboard and Beatport chart success, Axwell Λ Ingrosso aren’t playing for a numbers game or popularity contest, but they certainly don’t take it for granted. ‘I think the biggest achievement is still being able to connect with our fans across the world,’ explains Ingrosso. ‘When you look at how long we’ve been doing this and the fact that people are still excited to see us and hear what we are all about, that feels really special.’
As a collective, Axwell Λ Ingrosso’s reign is still felt across the continents. Striking a landmark weekly summer residency at Ushuaia Ibiza and frequenting some of the world’s biggest international venues, theirs has been an impressive balance of bringing their showmanship to the ever expanding live playing field available to electronic music without ever giving up on the club floors that first gave them a platform to explode from. You’re as likely to find the duo headlining Coachella, V Festival and EDC as you are hearing their music on the prime time airwaves and club floors across the globe. The mission is simple – open doors and make music that speaks to the world.
The duo ended 2015 with #1 spot on Billboard’s end-of-year dance charts for ‘Something New,’ taking to the newly formed Beats 1 to showcase new material and fan favorites alike for this landmark first on the platform. Dropping instrumental landmark ‘Dream Bigger’ on New Year’s Eve and promising a balance of huge solo and collaborative landmarks for the year ahead, you might think you know what Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso bring to the table already, but this is a powerhouse duo with more than a few tricks left up their sleeves.
